The Christmas season is almost upon us and your little one is no doubt already eagerly waiting for the big day. This year, why not kick off the festivities with these fun ideas and things to do:

Decorate the Christmas tree

Whether you plan on buying a real tree or taking your trusty one down from the attic, decorating it is definitely one of the most exciting parts of the festive season. Give your little one their very own box of decorations and let them decide how the tree is to be styled this year.

Take them to see the lights

Kick off the Christmas season by taking your little ones in to your local town or city and have a wander around looking at all the festive lights. Alternatively, if you need to pick up a few presents you could always head to one of the many markets scattered around the city where you will really get into the spirit of the season.

Write their letter to Santa

While your little one no doubt has some idea of what they want from old St. Nick, it’s time to get things finalised and down on paper. Encourage them to colour in the letter with lots of festive drawings and doodles. Then post it, put it up the chimney or stick it to their window ready for collection from Santa.

Read Christmas books

There is nothing like reading a traditional Christmas story to get things really feeling like Christmas. There are so many stories to choose from that you could read a new one every week.  Why not head to the library or the book shop and pick up a book that you can read to your little one year after year?

Listen to Christmas music

Find your old Christmas CDs, pop them in the stereo and blast out the festive tunes. Have one in the car so that you will have an endless supply of festive music that you and your little one can sing along to on the way to and from school.
