Recently, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and now actress Rita Wilson has opened up on how her health battle has affected her relationship with husband Tom Hanks.

Rita, who has been married to Hanks for 27 years, told The New York Times that going through such a traumatic ordeal together has made them closer than ever.

“Who knew it would make you even closer? You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this. I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me. It was such a normal, intimate time,” said the 58-year-old.

Rita, who is best known for her roles in It’s Complicated and Law and Order, was speaking after making her return to the stage in Broadway play Fish in the Dark this week. She had stepped down from her role after being diagnosed earlier this year.

Sharing her thoughts on her comeback, Rita added: “It felt surreal that all these changes had happened…It was so much fun. I had adrenaline coursing through me like never before. In a way, it was like a second opening night.”

Rita shared the news of her breast cancer diagnosis in April, writing an emotional post to followers on her Facebook page.

At the time, the mother-of-two revealed that she had undergone a double-mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after receiving her diagnosis. She went on to urge people to always get a second opinion if they have health concerns.
