Adopting a child from outside Ireland. What should I expect?

Adopting a child internationally can offer a childless couple the opportunity to be parents, and the child in question the option of a loving and stable home. The process is, however, quite long and complex, and if you’re thinking of adopting a child internationally, you should contact the local office of the Adoption Board, or a registered adoption society, and request the application forms. Once you’ve completed the application forms, you can expect to have to follow the following procedure:

Attend the mandatory education course provided by the Board or society.

Undergo assessment by a social worker, which will include several interviews, one or more of which will be in your home.

The Board or society will then decide on your eligibility and suitability for international adoption.

It’s only after this process has been completed that you will be able to begin the international adoption process.
