Precious Newborn Syndrome can be described as when a new mum experiences an overwhelming obsession with their first offspring that generally disappears when they give birth again.

And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with it – in fact, most of us are guilty of some aspects of it -  it’s not an easy one to admit to!

Not convinced you have Precious Firstborn Syndrome? Well, the following might make you think twice...

1. Nothing is ever too good for Baby

Whether it’s the latest buggy or the trendiest, most expensive gadget your little one will not go without – even if you don’t really need it...

2. Not letting anyone go near your baby

Just in case they hurt or even breathe on your youngster.

3. Carrying around a giant bottle of hand sanitiser

Nobody is going near Baby if they haven’t washed their hands with a gallon of alcohol-based gel.

4. Writing a mile-long list of things the babysitter has to do before Baby goes to sleep

Including walking around the nursery anti-clockwise, three times while humming the theme tune of Antiques Roadshow – it’s the only way they will sleep, right?

5. Putting suncream in their hair

Just in case the sun manages to penetrate through the umbrella and hat that is covering your little one’s head.

6. Signing them up for everything

Whether it’s gym classes before they can walk, singing classes before they can speak or music classes before they have learned to control their hands your newborn is not going to miss anything.

7. Poking your baby to make sure they are still breathing

You don’t care if you have spent the last hour trying to get them down – you are totally going to give them a little prod just to make sure everything is ok.

8. Not flushing the toilet, even after a number two

Just in case your wake your sleeping baby with the noise

9. Buying a wipe-warmer

You wouldn’t dare put a cold one on their skin – the poor little mite.

10. Washing your nipples before a feed

Let’s just finish on this one...
