Stories of women being shamed while breastfeeding are constantly appearing in headlines and on our newsfeed but this mum is here to tell you that’s not the full story.

Shawnee Prether took to social media to tell breastfeeding mums not to be afraid.

“The fear is usually unfounded,” Shawnee said in her post.

The mum shares her experiences of breastfeeding and says that we just see more of the bad stories than we do of the good.

“All the scary stories on the internet are so rare, I’ve nursed all my children for a combined total of over five years and I have never, ever had a single bad experience.”

While unfortunately this isn’t the case for everyone, Shawnee is determined to encourage other mums to be brave.

“To the woman huddled in a bathroom stall because you’re embarrassed to nurse in public, COME OUT!

“To the woman who decides to use formula during the trip because you’re afraid security will hassle you for carrying on milk or a pump, DON’T.

“To the woman who passes on a night out to avoid people seeing that you do what’s best for your baby, GO!

“Be brave if you can and most of all be PROUD!”
