As your child grows and begins to develop their own sense of identity and independence, you may be met with a few behaviour issues. And no we are not talking about the teen years; the preschool years can be just as tricky to navigate.

To help you out, we have compiled a list of the most common problems that you might have to deal with and their solution.

Baby talk

As your little one grows up and has to deal with certain stressful situations like preschool, they can begin to regress, often reverting back to baby talk. While it is likely just a phase that they are going through, it is important that you don’t make a big deal about it rather telling them that they are a big girl/boy now and should speak properly.

Temper tantrums

The terrible twos don’t end when your little one turns three, unfortunately. As your youngster grows, their tantrums can develop into a form of aggression as they struggle to understand or control their emotions. The most effective way to deal with this is to be consistent in your discipline and teach them how to solve problems without resorting to aggression or tantrums.

Saying no

As they grow your little one will become more independent and develop their own mind. And while we love to see their little personalities coming though, when you are met with a constant ‘no’ from your three-year-old it can be frustrating. However, rather than pulling them up on bad behaviour every time they show defiance, use positive reinforcement instead, offering plenty of praise to get them to do what they are told.

Biting

Biting is another way your youngster expresses their anger and while it is usually just a phase, it is something that needs to be tackled before it gets out of hand. Telling your child that biting is not acceptable, putting them in time out and teaching them how to express frustrations and anger correctly will go a long way to solving the problem.
