If you are interested in taking your children on a grand adventure outdoors, then you should consider a holiday on a campsite. However, don’t be deceived into thinking that you’ll have a rough time sleeping in a small tent - campsites have evolved and now include facilities that will make your stay as luxurious as it needs to be!

Camping le Ty Nadan, France

This site is on a huge estate in the heart of the Breton countryside, with canoeing and kayaking available on the river Ellé, rock climbing, quad biking, paintballing and horse-riding in the woods. It also has an indoor pool with water slides and its acrobatic adventure park boasts Brittany's longest zip-wire.

Le Brasilia, France

The quality of everything on this campsite and its location in a pine grove right on a beautiful stretch of sandy Mediterranean beach, make it one of the best in France. A recently built aqua complex will be a highlight even though the beach is just a short stroll away. There is an entertainment programme, including a kids' club in a circus top and Club Brazil for teenagers.

Les Alicourts Resort, France

Located in a quiet area of the Loire, this site has its own lake where you can swim, fish or even hire canoes. There is a wave pool, water slides, a covered play area for wet days, and Baby Paradise for tiny ones. Kids will love the mini go-karts and will be kept busy with the many activities on offer such as crazy golf, football, roller skating and archery. Parents, meanwhile, can relax at the Senso Balnéo spa.

Domain Des Ormes, France

A leafy campsite in the grounds of a 16th-century chateau where it’s almost impossible for children to get bored! Attractions include a water park, indoor pool, golf course, climbing wall, riding school, fishing lake and treetop adventure course.

Hvidbjerg Strand, Denmark

Hvidbjerg Strand is a 5 star camping site with facilities comparable with those of a luxury hotel! Situated only 200 metres from one of the finest and most child-friendly beaches in Europe, the site also offers an indoor Water Park in which the ‘black hole’ slide and underground cave will thrill older kids. There is Play City, an indoor paradise for kids, playgrounds, an Indian camp, a fishing lake, horse riding and sports of every type. There are lots of accommodation options but the Fisherman’s cabin wins my vote!

Havelberge Camping, Germany

Located in a woody area on the shores of Mecklenburg Lake Plateau, this is a lovely family campsite, 30 mins drive from Berlin. Kids will love the Wild West village and adventure playground, along with archery, trampolines and trails through the woods providing plenty of adventure.

Altomincio Family Park, Italy

A beautiful site designed with the little ones in mind. There’s a great pool with a swim-up children’s bar and a choice of family orientated entertainment. A car-free haven, there’s plenty here to keep everyone occupied.

Caravan Park Sexten, Italy
Set against the breathtaking back-drop of the Sesto mountains and close to the Austrian border, this mountain resort has fantastic accommodation options such as rooms, apartments, chalets and mobiles along with a stunning wellness area. In summer, kids are kept on the go with thoughtfully designed programmes while in winter skiers can enjoy the slopes of the nearby ski area in the Upper Pusteria Valley.

Campsite life is made for children - they love the freedom, the space to play, explore and even meet a friend.
