According to reports emerging from the States, a Wisconsin man has been released from prison after finally admitting that he falsely confessed to a fatal road traffic incident in order to protect his son.

45-year-old Juan Silva Sr made a statement which indicated he had panicked and fled the scene of a crime following a crash in 2013 which killed one pedestrian and injured another.

Turning himself over to police the day after the tragic incident in Milwaukee, Mr. Silva Sr. was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison.

However, police were recently alerted to a tip which suggested Mr. Silva Sr. was in fact protecting the real cuplrit - his 22-year-old son, Juan Jr.

Upon further investigation, Mr Silva's son, Juan Silva Jr, was charged with the crime while a judge vacated his father's prison sentence allowing him to walk free from Racine County Jail.

Mr. Silva Jr has since admitted that he was the driver at the time of the incident.
