It seems like first-time mums are getting older.
According to latest figures from the CSO, the average age of first-time mothers is currently 30.8 years, an increase of 0.2 years from 2015.
And it looks like marital status has a part to play in those numbers.
Unmarried women are having children at the age of 28.5, while their married counterparts are leaving it a little later.
The birth rate has also seen a change over the past year, with a 4 percent drop in the number of babies born at the end of 2016.
The research also found that more expectant mothers are choosing to deliver via Caesarean section; one in three women to be precise.
However, not everyone is happy to see that number increasing.
“We’re over 30 percent now in Ireland, and that is a national disgrace,” said Professor of Midwifery in TCD, Cecily Begley.
