No matter how bad the prognosis may be, you should never give up hope for a loved one; this is something that the family of Mairead O’Dea have learned over the past number of months.

Mairead, from Co. Clare, has made headlines this week with her story of recovery, after giving birth to her son while on life support for a brain haemorrhage.

According to the Irish Independent, Mairead – who was living in Abu Dhabi with her husband at the time – was due to give birth to the couple’s first child in October 2015.

However, the family were left devastated when the 32-year-old suffered a brain haemorrhage. Doctors went on to deliver Baby Morgan at 27 weeks, via Caesarean-section, after Mairead’s waters broke while she was on life support.

Despite the fact that doctors told Mairead’s family that the chances of her surviving the ordeal were slim, she has made the kind of recovery that is nothing short of miraculous.

After four months spent in intensive care in Abu Dhabi, Mairead was brought home for treatment in Ireland. She is currently making good progress on a rehabilitation programme.

Little Morgan, meanwhile, has been released from hospital in Abu Dhabi and is being looked after by his father and grandmother.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Mairead’s sister Siobhan said: "We have been told that she will need 24-hour care once she leaves hospital. We are so grateful to anyone who has helped so far with her medical treatment.”

Now, all those looking to lend their support to Mairead’s journey are asked to click on to her fundraising page and donate to a big event on 11th June, in which her family and friends will be climbing Croagh Patrick.
