A couple have appealed for help in raising money to send their precious daughter to the US, to prevent an ‘aggressive’ form of cancer from returning.
British couple Josh and Kirsty Chambers have launched a fundraising campaign for their five-year-old daughter, Mia, following her battle with neuroblastoma; a form of cancer that affects the nerve tissue in the adrenal gland, neck, chest and spinal cord.
Mia’s parents first became concerned last April, when she began experiencing extreme fatigue and bouts of vomiting. Initially, they thought Mia was suffering from the same tummy bug that was doing the rounds in her school.
After finding a lump in Mia’s stomach, however, Josh and Kirsty suspected that something more serious was at play with their daughter, who was just four years old at the time.
Little Mia was rushed to hospital, where she was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma. She went on to undergo eight rounds of chemotherapy, had a kidney and an ovary removed as part of her treatment, and also required a stem cell transplant.
The battle isn’t over yet, however, as administrators explained on Mia’s fundraising page, on Just Giving.
“Because clinical trials overseas are not NHS funded, they can cost thousands of pounds, which is why Mia’s family have started to fundraise with Solving Kids’ Cancer.
“Supporting Mia’s fundraising campaign means that you’ll be helping to ensure that Mia can access all the treatment options available to her, no matter where they exist in the world, to help her beat cancer.”
The family hopes to use the money raised through the fundraising campaign to send Mia to America, where she can undergo trials for further therapy.
In an emotional statement, Josh and Kirsty vowed to stay positive for their little girl: “This monster will not beat us, and we will do everything in our power to make sure it stays away.”
