Mole screening for pregnant women

Pregnant women can now avail of a new skin cancer screening service at The Mole Screening Clinic on Dublin’s Grafton Street. The service has been launched to allay fears mums-to-be might encounter when moles change during pregnancy. This can be a common occurrence in pregnancy due to hyper pigmentation.

During pregnancy, 20% of women are reported to see changes in their moles, particularly women with darker skin. Changes include growing larger, darker or more atypical in appearance.

Although pregnancy does not increase the chances of developing melanoma, The Mole Screening Clinic are offering a 25% discount for pregnant women on a full-body ‘Mole Mapping Screen’, a special offer price of €149, to help ensure peace of mind during pregnancy. This hour-long consultation is where moles are examined and recorded for future tracking and monitoring. This is safe for pregnant women and also teaches the patient what symptoms to look for and how to reduce the risk of skin cancer.

While Ireland doesn’t see much sunshine, we have the 4th highest rate of skin cancer in Europe and it’s the most common cancer in Ireland today. According to The Mole Screening Clinic, Irish skin is particularly vulnerable to skin cancer, however skin cancer can be easily avoided with early detection. When caught early, 97% of skin cancer is curable.
