When you are the mum of a newborn baby, the last thing you should be doing is stressing about getting the washing done or cleaning the windows. Now is the time to bond with Baby and get used to your life as a mum, not ticking off things on your to-do list.

If you do have a list as long as your arm that you are struggling to ignore, the following seven reasons are why you should rip it up:

1. You don’t have the time

That spare twenty minutes that you have when Baby goes down for a nap is not time for catching up on your chores, it’s time to stare at your little one’s tiny hands.

2. Because you can

You won’t get another chance to do – once your baby has passed the newborn stage all help stops!

3. It will still be there tomorrow

You don’t need a list to tell you that washing has to be hung out or the garden needs to be tidied up – you can see it with your own eyes. But it’s easier to ignore it when it’s not written down...

4. It just makes you feel like you have a tonne of work to do

Your baby brain will help you forget the 50 million things you need to do that day – the list will just keep reminding you.

5. There’s more to life than lists

You have this gorgeous little person to care for – who cares if you haven’t done a thing on your so-called list.

6. It just makes you feel bad

Staring at a piece of paper with a list of things you haven’t done yet will only make you feel bad, and you don’t need to be made to feel bad.

7. Baby needs you

Everything else can wait.
