He has captured our hearts as Dustin on the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, and now Gaten Matarazzo is doing his bit to raise awareness about a super-rare condition.
The 14-year-old was born with the genetic condition cleidocranial dysplasia, which he previously said occurs in about ‘one-in-a-million’ people.
In an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, Gaten explained: “It’s a condition where you’re born without your collarbones. I don’t have any. It affects your facial growth, your skull growth, it affects your teeth.”
“That’s why I don’t have any teeth, these are fake right here. I have teeth, but they’re all baby teeth and need a lot of surgery,” he added.
Insisting that he has a ‘mild case’ of cleidocranial dysplasia, Gaten admitted that he is keen to use his new-found stardom to help others living with the condition.
“I feel like putting it into the show is really raising awareness for it. I want to raise awareness of it and let people know it’s not something they should be afraid of showing,” he said.
Fair play to him; we bet he’s already doing a lot for young people living with rare disorders.
