It’s not easy to keep an eye on our tots, especially during the summer months. While it can seem near impossible to prevent every danger scenario, there are some ways of minimizing the risks. Here are some great ways to keep your tot safe this summer:

Sunscreen
Whether you’re at home or abroad, it’s essential that your tot is aware of the importance of wearing sunscreen. Make sure you put SPF 30 or higher on your child, even on days it doesn’t seem that hot - it’s better to be safe than sorry with your kid's sun protection.

Sunhats and glasses
While your little one will no doubt complain about the sunhats and sunglasses, they still need to keep cool and safe when the sun does make an appearance. So make sure you protect your little one from harmful UV rays.

Pool safety
Whether it’s going to your local pool or, if you’re one of the lucky few who happens to be going abroad, you still need to go over pool safety with your tot. Your tot will need to stay at the shallow end of the pool and of course, be wearing all the necessary safety gear before hitting the water.

Bike Equipment
Whether they’re learning to cycle for the first time or coming to grasp with their new bike, your child will still need to be covered in bike safety gear. There will be unfortunately plenty of accidents, especially when your tot is learning to cycle, so all the right bike equipment is important.

Playground safety
There are plenty of trips to the playground during the summer months, and, while we like to think that it’s a safe place, there may be some dangers we need to keep an eye out for as well. Have a look at the equipment, especially the metal slides as the surfaces can become quite hot under the summer sun.

Road safety
Pedestrian safety becomes increasingly important during the summer months as your tot will be spending a lot more time outside. Make sure they know the safe cross code and that there under constant supervision whilst playing outside.

Stranger
They may too young to completely understand the whole concept of stranger danger just yet, but it’s still important to go over everything with your tot. Make sure they know that they should never accept anything from a stranger, and if they ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable that they should either go to you or a trusted adult straight away. It’s important that your child knows these rules as soon as possible.
