With midterm coming up, thoughts have turned to making the most of the time off and taking a break somewhere for all the family to enjoy.

With so many fabulous tourist spots right here on our doorstep, it is no surprise that more and more families are choosing to holiday in Ireland and take in the sights and sounds of what the Emerald Isle has to offer.

Here are a few tips to prepare you for holidaying in Ireland.

Pack your raingear
Have no doubt that your raincoat and wellies will come in great use during your trip! With a plethora of must-see natural beauty spots, make sure that you are prepared for the downpours that will inevitably come with visiting Ireland’s outdoor wonders.

Go off the grid
While there can be a real temptation to remain in the city, it’s a good idea to rent a car and go ‘off the grid’, even if it’s just for an afternoon. Ireland’s flora and fauna is famous for a reason, and a trip to the Irish countryside guarantees breath-taking views and stunning natural scenery.

Take a history lesson
Ireland is chock-full of amazing historic locations and ruins, from castles and churches to museums and Celtic settlements. History buffs should look into visiting the ancient Hill of Tara (Co. Meath), Blarney Castle (Co. Cork), Carlingford in Co. Louth, and Craggaunowen in Co. Clare, among others.

Sample the local cuisine
A break in Ireland would not be complete without sampling the local cuisine. Many Irish towns are famed for their delicious home produce and dishes, with Clonakilty, Dingle, Lisdoonvarna and Westport just some of the most popular foodie spots.
