What are nits?

Nits are the eggs of the head lice and are actually far more problematic than the lice. They are small, white-grey in colour and oval in shape and are stuck at an angle to the side of the hair shaft by a very sticky substance. Nits can’t be brushed out of the hair, they need to be grabbed, pinched and dragged down along the shaft of the hair.
Nits that lie further than a centimetre or two away from the scalp are usually empty cases which have remained attached to the hair even though they are dead.
You should focus your attention on the live eggs that are right up against the shaft. These eggs are really hard to spot and very tricky to get rid of.
