A woman in Staten Island got the shock of her life when she saw her lost wedding dress sitting in the window of a local dry cleaning shop.

After getting married in 2012, Nicole Pagliaro had taken her dress to be cleaned at South Beach Dry Cleaners. Unfortunately while there, Hurricane Sandy hit and flooded the building, putting them out of business. Pagliaro had given her dress up as lost before spotting it on display.

Following the hurricane, the owner of the dry cleaners Hector Pacheco found the dress floating outside his damaged shop. With all computer records destroyed in the flood, he had no way of tracing the dress to its owner.

When he reopened the shop this year, he put the dress on display in the window in hopes the owner would find it, even turning down offers to buy the dress. “I hoped that one day she would drive by,” Pacheco said.

Calling it the perfect anniversary gift and “another symbol of our relationship surviving everything”, Pagliaro and her husband hope their 18 month old daughter will wear the dress at her own wedding some day.
