She has been praised for her role as the nurturing grandmother in the movie Black and White, but award-nominated actress Octavia Spencer has revealed that everything you see on screen comes from what was written on her script.

The 44-year-old spoke candidly in a recent interview with Us Weekly about her decision not to have children, revealing that she has simply never had that maternal instinct.

“I am not maternal at all. I don’t have any kids. I don’t have a maternal instinct,” said the star.

This isn’t the first time Spencer has opened up on the issue of children and family.

During a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress revealed that she felt completely “fine” about not having kids.

“I should be married and have 19 kids. And now I’m thinking my eggs are dying on the shelf. They’re going to go past their expiration date,” she explained to fellow panellists Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey and Amy Adams.

“It’s what I chose, so I’m fine with that decision,” she added.

Octavia follows in the footsteps of fellow actress Helen Mirren, who previously said: “Motherhood holds no interest for me. It was not my destiny. I kept thinking it would be, waiting for it to happen, but it never did, and I didn’t care what people thought.”
