Those in the acting industry always say you should never work with children or animals, but if Angelina Jolie's recent comments are anything to go by, working with family members may prove just as difficult.

In a recent interview with the Directors Guild of America, the world-famous mum-of-six opened up about her experience of sharing a screen with husband, Brad Pitt.

Having recently wrapped up filming for her new movie By The Sea, the star sat down to discuss the dynamic at play during the filming of her directorial feature, and it appears playing Brad's on-screen partner proved a little difficult for the 40-year-old Californian-native.

Admitting she found the process draining, Angelina explained: "I'd be directing myself and him in a scene where we're having a fight, and I'd be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you're frustrated with each other - it was very heavy."

The nature of the film meant that the actors, who starred opposite each other in Mr and Mrs. Smith before becoming romantically involved, were forced to engage in tense scenes which explored various problems faced by their characters.

Elaborating on the atmosphere such a dynamic created on set, Angelina said: "We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don't know where to stand or where to look."

Despite attempting to make light of a tense situation, Angelina admits the film was her most difficult endeavour thus far, saying: "I think By the Sea was the hardest film for me."

Reflecting on the impact both the premise of the film and the nature of the scenes had on the couple, Angelina simply said: " We're proud of ourselves for being brave enough to try it."

By the sounds of things, these newlyweds won't be making further plans to work together any time soon!
