There's no denying that this celebrity mum-of-five has had her fair share of ups and downs.

From divorce and bankruptcy to alcohol and drug addiction, Kerry Katona's turbulent life has played out under the glare of the media spotlight, and while not everybody is her biggest fan, there's no denying that Ms. Katona is made of stern stuff.

Crediting her children for getting her through some of the more difficult periods in her life, Kerry paid tribute to them on tattoos she had inked across her wrists - a move which ultimately saved her life on a number of occasions.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Kerry reflected on her darkest times and admitted the specific placement of her tattoos prevented her from taking drastic action from which she may not have recovered.

"I've never slashed my wrists because of my kids. If I was ever to do that it would mean cutting through my kids' names. And what a selfish mother I would be to do that," she explained with heartwrenching honesty.

The star, who has been married three times, often turned to alcohol and drugs during some of the more turbulent periods in her life and admits she contemplated suicide on occasion, revealing: "I was thinking, 'How can I get out of this? I'm stuck. There's nowhere to go. The best way to end all this is to end my own life."

The star, who thankfully appears to have conquered her demons, insists the thought of her five children, Molly, Lilly-Sue, Heidi, Max and Dylan-Jorge was all she needed to pull herself back from the brink, saying: "Like any mother, my first love and priority are my children, above everything and everybody."

Kerry, who is currently focussing on exercise and healthy eating in an effort to promote positive mental attitude, has recently reconciled with third husband George Kay after a brief break-up.
