Drew Barrymore “bared all” by posting a selfie of herself, revealing her un-plucked eyebrows and grey roots on Instagram yesterday. In a world full of “flawless”, airbrushed and dolled-up faces, seeing an accurate representation of a celebrity is really refreshing.
As the actress is always in the public eye and under constant scrutiny, posting a bare-faced selfie to the public is very brave. Movies stars always have to masquerade under the illusion of “perfection”, but she shatters this misrepresentation with her post.
“OH MY GOD! How did I let it get this bad?” she captioned the photo that showed her from the nose up, leaning back against a pillow. “Base and brows needed. Must become her. Santa Clarita Diet here we go again. Season two.”
Followers were quick to respond with comments of praise and admiration.
“Thank you for posting a pic of a person looking like a real, living person as opposed to the new norm ...which is flawless frozen and embalmed,” wrote one follower.
“You’re amazing and refreshing as always! Can't wait for the new season!” gushed another.
“You are an inspiration, keep being real!” commented another Instagrammer.
“In a sea of Kardashians, you are a refreshing beacon of honesty and purity,” chimed in a fourth.
The image has since received 90,000 likes on Instagram.
Barrymore, who has her own makeup line, Flower, spoke to the New York Times in January about her simple beauty routine. “I would say 90 percent of my life, I wear zero makeup,” she said in the interview.
"But I almost never leave the house without my Skincognito Stick Foundation from Flower, because it covers blue, red, brown, purple. And I can't live without (skin ointment) Aquaphor for my lips. I'm convinced it's got me on a feeder. I just need more, more and more."
The mum-of-two is playing the lead on her latest show on Netflix, Santa Clarita Diet. Drew plays Sheila Hammond, a flesh-eating zombie in the new horror-comedy.
