We’re a nation of tea drinkers. We drink gallons of the stuff, whether that’s after the school run or when we’re curled up on the sofa watching The Crown, or during our midday slump in work.

Tea is a staple part of our diet, and it looks like it’s improving our lives.

Researchers at Peking University have discovered that tea boosts our mood which leads us to be more creative.

The team analysed 50 youth’s creative skills by giving half the group a glass of water and the other half of the group a cup of black tea.

They were then asked to complete two tasks which put their creative skills to the test. The teams had to create an attractive design by using building blocks and in the second test, they had to come up with a creative name for a restaurant.

In both tests, the tea drinkers scored higher than the people who drank water. They also found that the tea drinkers came up with more creative ideas.

They believe that the reason for the boost in both creativity and happiness is due to caffeine and threonine in tea.

In the past, researchers have found that embracing your creative side makes you feel happier, “Engaging in creative behaviour leads to increases in wellbeing the next day, and this increased well-being is likely to facilitate creative activity on the same day.”

We think it's time to put the kettle on!
