We were delighted when we heard that this Emmerdale star had finally popped the question to her long-term love, and now she has finally opened up about how exactly she did it!

Michelle Hardwick, who plays the character of Vanessa Woodfield on the hit ITV soap, came out as homosexual in 2013 after joining the show.

Explaining in an interview with The Mirror at the time, the 39-year-old said: “Since joining Emmerdale I’ve been getting asked about my personal life and when people want to know ‘do you have a boyfriend?’ It’s tricky. I don’t want to hide anything. I’ve never actually been able to talk about ‘my girlfriend’ or ‘partner’ – this person that means everything to me, and it feels good to be able to finally do it.”

Today, in a conversation with Lorraine Kelly on her popular morning show, Lorraine, about the proposal, the actress, who married Rosie Nicholl back in April, said that she “hoped” her girlfriend would say yes.

“I put all petals down, I got on one knee, we had James Taylor her favourite song playing in the background.”

The couple were surrounded by family and friends as they exchanged vows at Danby Castle in North Yorkshire earlier this year.

“We’re just two normal people, who love each other, we’ve just fallen in love, whether that’s a man, woman. And that day to have everybody in that room, that means so much to us and for us to say our vows in front of them - that’s beautiful.”
