Love him or loathe him, there's no doubt that television broadcaster and newspaper journalist, Piers Morgan, knows how to generate publicity.

Using LA Lakers star, Lamar Odom, as a platform to deride reality television earlier today, Piers touches a nerve with thousands of Daily Mail readers.

Lamar, who was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel on Tuesday, was the subject of Pier's latest column in which he pours scorn on Lamar's ex-wife's family, the Kardashians, and a society which celebrate reality television stars.

"As I write, Lamar Odom is clinging on. He’s in a coma, distraught family and friends at his bedside. But his dignity and reputation are already dead, shredded at the altar of reality television," he began.

Despite acknowledging Lamar's turbulent childhood and troubled past, Piers appears to suggest the sport star's struggles appeared to intensify once becoming involved with the famous family.

"Many others have survived similarly catastrophic blows and emerged stronger and better from the emotional wreckage. They, though, didn’t marry a Kardashian," he opined.

While acknowledging the family's savvy business sense, Piers did not hide his disdain for the rocky foundations from which the Calabasas clan built their fame.

"I can admire their work ethic and business acumen, whilst also acknowledging that their billion-dollar global family brand is built on an entirely false edifice of transitory, talentless fame," he wrote.

Appearing to lay blame for Lamar's current condition at the feet of the Kardashian clan, the Sussex-native continued: "Those sucked into their crazy world need to be very, very careful it doesn’t also suck them down in the process."

"He fell in love with a Kardashian and his life became public property. At first, he loved every minute of his new found celebrity status… But then, after a while, he stopped loving it," speculated the former Britain's Got Talent judge.

Giving an insight into the life of a reality television star, Piers continued: "There’s no ability to control the beast. Your life is public property, your human qualities and frailties exposed to millions. Everywhere you go, everyone knows everything about you."

Finishing the column which questions the worth placed on reality television, Piers remarked: "The sad, tragic truth about Lamar Odom is that he couldn’t keep up with the Kardashians. And he should never have tried."

Since the column's publication, Piers has been forced to defend his remarks and insists he stands by what he wrote, telling one Twitter user: "It’s not a joke. Reality TV wrecked Lamar’s life."

Lamar's ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, and a number of other family members have been by Lamar's bedside since his hospitalisation yesterday.
