Finn Wolfhard is one talented teen. Besides starring as Mike Wheeler in Netflix powerhouse Stranger Things (which earned him a SAG Award in 2017), the 15-year-old is the lead vocalist and guitarist in the up-and-coming band Calpurnia.
The band just released their first official song, and it's hard not to tap your foot along to this tune. 'City Boy' is produced by Cadien Lake James, of Chicago rock band Twin Peaks, Harper's Bazaar reports.
The indie rock jam is infused with a laid-back charm, with hints of psych-rock popping up here and there.
The accompanying music video is just as chilled, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Chicago-recorded song. The teens goof off, modify their instruments, and bask in the pure joy of playing in a band.
The Vancouver-based act consists of Finn (guitar and lead vocals), Ayla Tesler-Mabe (lead guitar), Jack Anderson (bassist), Malcolm Craig (drums). All four grew up in the same area and the band grew organically from jamming and covering songs together.
Their natural chemistry was key, Finn noted in a statement: "We all just really clicked. And when I'm passionate about something I like to get it done as quickly as I can. There's not a lot of wasting time. I love just going for it. Go big or go home."
Finn's in good company in Stranger Things as well, as many of his co-stars are quite musical, too.
Both Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) and Caleb McLaughlin (Caleb) have appeared on Broadway. Gaten sang his heart out as Gavroche in Les Mis, while Caleb starred as Young Simba in the Lion King. Gaten even has his own band as well, called Work in Progress.
Joe Keery, who plays Steve, had to abandon musical pursuits for the show. He left his band Post Animals due to scheduling conflicts and because he didn't want the band to become synonymous with Stranger Things.
We hope Finn doesn't end up doing the same! We're excited to hear the rest of Calpurnia's first EP, which is due out later this year.
