A child star, who rose to fame in the 90s, has been sentence to four months in prison following a stabbing incident on Christmas Day last year.

Dustin Diamond, who played Screech in US teen show Saved By The Bell for over 11 years, was convicted of disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon after a fight broke out in Milwaukee bar on December 25th.

The court heard that the accused had brandished a pocket knife during an altercation which saw his girlfriend, Amanda Schutz, punched in the face.

During the incident which took place in a Port Washington bar, the court heard that Mr. Diamond stabbed a man involved in the dispute.

Commenting on the conviction, the actor addressed the court, saying: "I sincerely apologise to everyone involved."

Mr. Diamond asserted that the incident has consumed him since it occurred, saying: "This was the single most terrifying experience of my life. This is all I've been able to think about for the last six months."

The 38-year-old actor was also sentenced to 15 months probation, with Judge Paul Malloy insisting it was necessary to "send a message to the community that we're just not going to live like this."

The actor was cleared of reckless endangerment and left the courtroom without making further comment.
