Paying tribute to Cathriona, who was dubbed a 'delicate Irish flower' in a tribute made by a clearly stunned Jim Carrey, her grieving family expressed their sadness at her passing and requested privacy as they attempt to come to terms with the family tragedy.
Prior to her demise, Cathriona wrote a final tweet which laid bare her feelings on those closest to her, writing: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest. Love to you all."
In a subtle reference to their daughter's final social media contribution, they continued: "Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family."
"We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss," they finished.
While numerous reports have alleged the young woman's death was the result of a drug overdose, officials refuse to confirm or deny speculation, stating: "The final cause of death has not been confirmed, pending an autopsy."
