Katie Hopkins is known for her cruel and callous comments, but one she said five months ago left us reeling at how insensitive she could actually be.

Normally not shy about addressing herself, Katie didn’t directly respond to the backlash she received when she compared refugees to cockroaches, after hundreds died trying to flee Syria.

However, insisting that she would never be silenced, the mum-of-three addressed her comments at Ukip’s annual conference today, by saying boats carrying refugees should be turned back.

“Do I think we need to turn back the boats? Do I think we should be policing the med? Do I think we should be dissuading migrants from making that journey? Absolutely."

In reference to the horrific image of Aylan Kurdi, a young Syrian boy whose body was found on a Turkish beach, the Mail Online columnist said: “You were all alarmed by the photo of the dead child on the beach, but really, if we stopped those boats from coming, that wouldn’t have happened.”

"You all saw a picture in the newspapers and you felt bad about it and so you want to make yourself feel better," she said to Sky.

Adding that she wouldn’t be opening her home up the refugees, she said: "I stand for British people and putting British people first."
