Although it was common knowledge that Prince Harry has been in a relationship with American actress Meghan Markle for over a year now, neither have ever confirmed this until now.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 36-year-old actress has finally opened up about the fairy-tale love story, admitting that they are a couple and are “really happy” together.
She also insisted that despite the fact that Harry is such a high-profile figure, their relationship is no different than anyone else's.
Meghan revealed that the couple had managed to keep their love affair under wraps during the early days of their relationship.
“We're two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people's perception,” the actress candidly admitted.
"Nothing about me changed. I'm still the same person that I am, and I've never defined myself by my relationship.”
The Suits actress said she ignores tabloid rumours and stories about herself and Harry, and advises friends to do the same.
“I don’t read any press. I haven’t even read press for Suits. The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”
Being in a relationship with a member of the royal family means being thrust into the spotlight and having the relationship scrutinised for all to see.
For now, Meghan is trying to avoid the publicity involved in dating a royal but concedes that this may be hard to do in the future.
"I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.
"This is for us. It's part of what makes it so special, that it's just ours. But we're happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
