It was the story that touched the hearts of people all over the world, and international outcry over the case of Colby Nielsen has brought about an unexpected ending.
Colby made headlines after his newborn daughter, Kaylee, was given up for adoption in accordance with the wishes of her biological mother. Under Utah law, the woman in question was under no obligation to even notify the father of her plans.
In the latest update to the story, after Colby’s devastation went viral, it has been revealed that the adoptive family have handed baby Kaylee back to her biological parents.
In a statement issued to Fox13 news station, the family confirmed that they were ‘relinquishing all custodial rights’: “Sadly, misinformation has caused immense pain and suffering by all parties involved. Our hearts go out to both biological parents."
“Our intent was always to have a completely open adoption, as discussed with both biological parents prior to birth. We have always wanted what is best for Kaylee. Had we known that all parties were not in agreement in these regards, the adoption never would have taken place. We have hope that this may yet be a happy story for Kaylee and her biological parents,” they added.
A lawyer for Colby Nielsen this evening said that he hopes to see baby Kaylee in her father’s custody soon; if not, he confirmed that the courts would step in.
