You all know how much I love my food whether it’s cooking at home or going out for a family meal. I have been trying my hardest to turn my girls into food connoisseurs (is it weird to try and force your child to eat Coq au Vin and Duck Confit?) but when it comes to dessert they will generally go for the obvious – ice cream. I have been trying to think of new and exciting ways to serve them their favorite dessert but I generally can’t get much more creative than adding sprinkles and wafers – or sometimes, can you believe, jelly.

So when I came across a few fun recipes from HB Hazelbrook Farm (a favorite in our house) I was dying to try them out. They have teamed up with renowned nutritionist Aveen Bannon and come up with some great new recipe ideas for mums, showing how it’s possible to enjoy snacks while still serving up nutritious foods and enjoying a balanced, healthy diet. Because HB Hazelbrook Farm want what’s best for your family they give the nutrition information with the recipes so you know exactly what you are giving your child. I decided to go with the recipes that are low in sugar and calories – they are already hyper enough in our house plus it means I get to have dessert too without the guilt.

I tried out two of the recipes and the girls loved them. They are seriously tasty and loads of fun to make (and eat obviously) and are a great alternative to the usual jelly and ice cream. We will be launching a new exciting recipe section on our site in the next month or two and will be featuring lots more of these HB recipes so make sure to keep an eye out.

The two recipes I tried were Princess Plum Smoothie (if you have boys feel free to leave out the word ‘princess’ when serving them their dessert.) and Nutty Monkey. Both recipes are very simple and very, very tasty. Enjoy!
