Gardai will issue a fresh appeal today in the hope of finding abandoned baby Maria’s mother.

The little girl was found on Steelstown Road near the Blackchurch Inn in Rathcoole last Friday, 8th May, and was only discovered when a motorist stopped for a toilet break.

The infant was found wrapped in a light brown fleece blanket/throw and bin liner and was then placed inside a Marks and Spencer bag.

The youngster is currently being cared for by Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, who was granted an interim care order at the Family Court after medical staff said the youngster needed further attention.

Tusla have checked with a number of hospitals in a bid to find out where the infant was born and Gardai have been pursuing a number of lines of inquiry but so far have not established anything.

Gardai have stressed that the little girl’s mum has nothing to fear by coming forward.
