As more and more mums choose not to have their babies christened, naming ceremonies are starting to grow in popularity. While a great way to get the whole family together to welcome Baby, they can be extremely stressful as you try to get everything organised, while coping on very little sleep.

If you are planning on organising one in the near future, take note of the following tips to ensure you enjoy the day as much as your guests.

1. Keep it small

Try it keep it to just family and close friends, otherwise you just know the guest list will be never ending. Remember, you are going to be working off very little sleep and Baby will need to be fed and be put down for a nap.

2. Get in catering or avoid sit down meals

Cooking for even a small amount of people can be extremely stressful, never mind for a party, so try to avoid doing anything too complicated. Sandwiches, cocktail sausages and desserts are usually enough for an afternoon party, so don’t go overboard. If you do want to have a sit down meal, try organising a chicken curry or a lasagne as they are easy to prepare and usually go down a treat with most people.

3. Keep it short and sweet

When sending out invitations have a start and end time so that it doesn’t go on for longer than you’d like. Three or four hours is usually enough time to allow you to mingle and have a chat with everyone without feeling exhausted by the end of it.

4. Give yourself time

No matter how many people you plan on inviting make sure you give yourself plenty of time to organise it. Whether you are having it at your home or have booked a venue to host it, there will be plenty to do so you will need to give yourself enough time to do.

5. Relax

This is meant to be a fun day for you and your family so avoid stressing out about anything. From guests not turning up to something going wrong with the food, you won’t have control over everything, so just go with the flow.
