HSE (Health Service Executive) has revealed that some babies are not getting their developmental check-ups on time, due to residential staff shortages.

The figures showed that less than half the babies who should be given the checks before 10 months of age were seen on time in Roscommon in February.

HSE revealed in Limerick only 57% were screened within the recommended timeframe.

These latest figures fall short of the HSE’s 95% and it has been revealed that staff shortages have unfortunately been the cause.

Doctors said that delays in baby check-ups are worrying because these check-ups can be essential in picking up any early problems.

But HSE said it is still an improvement on last year’s figures, where 90% of infants were checked in on time this year, in comparison to 85.3% of this time last year.
