It’s hard to put your finger on exactly what makes your child’s bedroom feel finished.

However, it’s even harder to ignore that niggling feeling that, after weeks of decorating, it’s somehow still not quite done.

Here are a few ways to make your little one’s bedroom feel finished, complete and ready for hours of sleep and playtime.

1. Layer the bedding: A child's bed should look and feel super homely and comfortable - a mini, magical space to ward off monsters and nightmares. Layer up with multiple pillows in different shapes and colours. Try a pretty throw or blanket, and add different patterned and textured bedding to the space.

2. Fill up the mantle: Have fun filling the entire mantlepiece with pretty toys, books and ornaments that are different sizes, colors and shapes. Your little one can help you pick out the special items that are to take pride of place here.

3. Add pretty plants: There's no reason to shy away from greenery just because it's a child's room, especially if you have a spot to put them up high. During summer, fill jam jars with the wildflowers your little one picks and fill the room with colour and beautiful scents.

4. Don't rely on printables and etsy prints for your art. These will leave your walls looking too flat and impersonal. A finished room will almost always include a garland, three-dimensional objects being hung as art - a dream-catcher, a birdcage - and original art, especially if it was painted by your talented little one.

5. Kids' clothes are so adorable, so why hide it away? Hanging a special dress or coat on a hook in the room can add buckets of character to your little one's space.
