We have seen it happen time and time again – a mum is called out for nursing her child in public; what we rarely see, however, is the mum getting the chance to call her ‘shamer’ out.

This is exactly what mum Conner Kendall did when she found a photo of herself breastfeeding her child online.

Kendall took the opportunity to address the issue on her own social media, sharing a screenshot of the offending post, which read: “Ok moms out there…I know when a baby is hungry they need [to be] fed. I [want] to know if this is appropriate or inappropriate as I’m trying to eat my Fridays, there are little kids around…I understand feeding in public but could you at least cover your boob up?! Your input is needed.”

Kendall went on to explain the circumstances of the photo being taken, revealing that the man who took the photo was a complete stranger who was sitting three tables away.

“While I in no way, shape, or form owe you any explanation I would like to clarify a few things. I did nothing wrong, I turned away to latch my son and pulled my shirt back up when he was finished out of respect for others in the restaurant. I do not use a cover, because my son fights them, screams, and doesn’t eat at all while under them. If he had been screaming because he was hungry then I would be a bad mom for not feeding my hungry child,” explained Kendall.

She went on to urge others reading the post to educate themselves about breastfeeding, branding society’s sexualisation of breasts as the reason for such shameful posts.

Directly addressing the man who shared the post, she added: “I pray that, if in the future your daughter chooses to breastfeed, she is not shamed and does not have her picture plastered all over social media.”

Let’s hope that her post resonates with the man who shared that image.
