A couple from Cincinnati, Ohio was left terrified after their baby daughter's monitor was hacked.

Heather and Adam Schreck were in bed when they thought they heard a voice.

Heather then checked the camera in her daughter's room through her mobile phone and noticed it acting strangely.

Adam went into his daughter's room to check on her and heard a voice screaming: "Wake up baby, wake up baby" at his daughter.

The camera then turned on him and began shouting obscenities until he switched it off.

The couple have said that they are very shaken that someone could hack into their baby's camera monitor and watch and speak to their little girl: "You do feel kind of violated in a way."

Experts say that while there is no way of guaranteeing your camera is hacker-free, you can avoid the situation by updating the software regularly, changing passwords often and always having different passwords for your Wi-Fi and the camera.
