We all know how important it is to stay free from stress. High stress levels can take their toll on the mind, body and soul, but experts are now saying it can also affect the mind of your little one.

A study found that infants as young as one can pick up on negative vibes and emotions, leaving them to become anxious themselves.

The researchers examined 69 mothers and their one-year-olds. While the children were taken to a playroom, the mothers were asked to make a five-minute speech before a session of questions and answers. Some women were given words of encouragements while others left the room unhappy.

Those who received negative feedback had the fastest heart rates and within minutes of being with their children, the babies picked up on the negative vibes.

Lead researcher Sara Waters said: “Our research shows that infants 'catch' and embody the physiological residue of their mothers’ stressful experiences.”

They believe that children react to changes in their mother’s tone of voice or facial expression and in some cases, the smell of their sweat had an effect.

Even though a child can’t ask you what is wrong, as soon as they start picking up of your emotional state this will have an effect on how they feel as well.
Remember mums, a happy mum makes a happy child.
