Brittle nails are not particularly attractive and can make you feel very self conscious, especially when you are working with your hands on a daily basis.
Unfortunately many of us hide our less-than-glamorous nails under a layer of polish, which can actually be making the problem worse unless you are wearing a protective coat.
Most of us long for enviable, elegant nails, not ones that are flaky and weak and crack easily; thankfully, if you do have nails that leave little to be desired, the following top tips should help you improve their condition:
- Frequently apply hand cream, especially after you have washing them.
- Protect your nails when cleaning dishes or doing the garden by wearing gloves
- Avoid using nail varnish or wear a protective base coat underneath
- Don’t use a nail polish remover that contains acetone.
- Make sure you are getting enough Omega-3 fatty acid, protein and are eating plenty of oily fish to help nail growth.
- Don't bite or pick your nails.
- Rub a nail oil in several times a week
- When using an emery board, make sure you work in one direction not back and forth.
