She was seen walking the cobbles of Coronation Street for the very last time on Christmas Day, and now actress Paula Lane is celebrating another momentous event.

The 28-year-old, who played Kylie Platt on the soap, gave birth to her first child this week.

The star and her husband of seven months, Tom Shaw, welcomed a baby boy on New Year’s Eve.

Taking to Twitter to share the wonderful news, Paula wrote: “Our world is complete – we finished off a momentous year with the arrival of our beautiful baby boy on NYE!!!!”

Proud dad Tom added: “Oh boy! It’s been quite a 24 hours – many thanks for all the good wishes, they’re much appreciated. Now to sleep, if the wee man lets us…”

The couple received a string of congratulatory messages from friends and followers, with one of the first tweets coming from the official Coronation Street account.

“Many congratulations to Coronation Street’s Paula Lane, who plays Kylie Platt. Paula gave birth last night to a baby boy, on New Year’s Eve,” read the message.

Mum-to-be and former co-star Catherine Tyldesley also sent on her well wishes to the new parents, tweeting: “Massive congrats guys!!! Lots of love!! I’m cooking him a little pal as we speak xxx.”

What a lovely start to 2015. Congratulations to the happy couple and their family.
