Throughout your pregnancy journey your body changes in ways that you will no doubt have expected: your stomach will grow larger, your body will put on weight and your skin may change slightly. However, all these changes don’t suddenly right themselves after Baby is born and you might even find that there are a few unexpected surprises post-pregnancy.

Here are six things that happen after you have a baby that you might not be aware of:

1. Hair loss

During pregnancy many women find that they have fuller, thicker and shinier hair. However, once Baby arrives this new found hair will start to fall out. But don’t worry, it’s simply the extra hair that you are finding down the drain – you’re not going bald.

2. Soft breasts

You may be expecting swollen, tender breasts soon after your give birth but this won’t happen in the first couple of days. This is because your breasts have colostrum - a nutrient-rich pre-milk - and won't become swollen until about day three or four.

3. Sensitive nipples

Your nipples will be feeling a lot more sensitive than normal and if you are breastfeeding you may find they are quite sore. The pain should ease up within seconds of Baby latching on but if it doesn’t talk to your midwife or breastfeeding nurse.

4. Bigger feet

Most of us experience swollen feet throughout the nine months and for some mums they never go back to their normal shoe size. This is because during pregnancy the weight of the bump can cause your arch to fall a little making your feet wider and longer.

5. Belly bulge

Many mums assume that once Baby comes out their belly will shrink right down. Unfortunately, this is not the case and it can take a good six to eight weeks before your uterus has even shrunk to its pre-pregnancy size.

6. Smaller boobs

While your breasts will initially get bigger if you are breastfeeding, after the birth and when you finish nursing you may find that they have gone down a cup size.
