As mums we often convince ourselves that we aren't doing a good enough job or that there's room for improvement in our parenting approach, but in reality we're all doing the best we can which is why this kind note from a stranger meant so much to 23-year-old mum Sammie Welch.

Attempting to entertain her 5-year-old son Rylan on a long train trip, the young mum humoured her little boy while he ate his lunch and tried to keep him as comfortable as possible on a journey from Birmingham to Plymouth last Thursday.

Unaware anyone was paying any attention to her and her child, Sammie was astounded when she was passed a note by a middle-aged man as he was getting off the train.

Opening the note, Sammie was dumbstruck when a £5 note fell out encouraging her to "have a drink on me."

In addition to the kind offer, the note praised Sammie for her wonderful parenting skills, saying: "You're a credit to your generation, polite and teaching the little boy good manners."

Commenting on the event, a shocked Sammie said: "I felt really overwhelmed by it all, it was just so lovely to get it. I've put the money in a savings account for Rylan now. I thought that was the best place for it."

Exceptionally grateful for the stranger's kind gesture, Sammie acknowledged: "Money is quite short for people nowadays so for someone to give me that was amazing, and I want to put it to good use."

We're delighted for Sammie and Rylan!
