A survey conducted by MummyPages.ie has revealed the majority of mums are now taking inspiration from celebrities when it comes to naming their children.

The survey, which took place over two weeks and included over 300 mums, showed that eight out of ten mums looked to celebs for names.

The findings indicate that many mums are keen to follow celebrities such as singer Ciara, who recently named her first born child Future Zahir Wilburn.

However, despite celebrity trends, the survey proved that most mums still prefer to give their little ones traditional names.

Other findings of the poll included the fact that 28% of Irish parents prefer a unique name for their child, 8% of parents have looked to popular television shows for inspiration and only 12% decided to name their child after a family member.

Mum-in-residence, Laura Haugh said MummyPages is also noticing these trends in the baby naming section.

Laura said that even though celebrity names have become popular for some mums, the majority of parents are still leaning towards more traditional names for their children.

“Our sense is that mums in Ireland are moving away from naming their children after celebrities and pop stars, instead opting for a name that has special meaning or symbolism for the parents and will stand the test of time!”
