UPDATE January 12th: The woman in question has been released without charge this morning (12/1/17).

 

Gardaí are investigating the "sudden and unexplained death" of a four-month-old boy, who passed away on January 1st.

 

According to a statement by the gardaí, the infant died following an incident at a residence in Bohola, Co. Mayo on December 28th.

 

He was initially taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar before being removed to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, where he sadly passed away.

 

Yesterday, a woman in her 20s was arrested as part of the investigation and is currently being detained at Claremorris Garda Station. 

 

 

A post-mortem examination has been carried out by the State Pathologist although details of the report won't be released for operational reasons.

 

However, RTÉ are reporting that the youngster suffered head injuries.
