A 10-week-old baby girl is fighting for her life in hospital after sustaining serious injuries on Monday.

The little girl was transferred from hospital in Louth to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, because of the severity of her injuries.

According to The Journal, the little girl suffered serious head injuries and a number of broken bones.

It's not yet known how the little girl acquired these injuries. She is said to be in a critical condition at the moment.

The baby was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Louth after an incident at an apartment complex in Ardee, Co. Louth, according to The Irish Independent.

Gardaí in Ardee are now carrying out a full investigation into the incident. The Journal reports that Gardaí will be interviewing her parents about circumstances leading up to the baby’s injuries.

Gardaí say they are examining all lines of enquiry at the moment.  One possibility is that the child may have fallen out of her pram.

A garda spokesman said: "A ten-week-old girl was removed from a local hospital in Co Louth on Monday and transferred to a Dublin hospital where she remains in a serious condition.”

"The circumstances of how the child received her injuries is now part of a garda investigation."

A source told The Irish Independent that Gardaí in Ardee are examining CCTV and are conducting searches of the area.
