Here are some of Cork’s finest beaches to visit.
1. Garretstown
Garretstown Beach, West Cork lies near the Old Head of Kinsale and is a short drive from Kinsale town and the charming Ballinspittle village. A hit among surfers and families alike, Garretstown is a scenic stretch of golden sand, clean waters and a seaside vibe perfect for a summer’s day.
2. Barleycove
This sandy beach is nestled between two headlands on the Mizen Peninsula in West Cork. Its sand dunes are the perfect play area for the kids, while you take in the striking scenery. Nearby, there’s surfing, horse trekking, bird watching, sea angling, boating, sailing, and cycling. There is excellent hiking and walking as well to places such as Brow Head , Mizen Head, and Three Castles Head.
3. Garrylucas Beach
Garrylucas Beach in West Cork is only a short drive from Kinsale and is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Blue Flag beach is popular among kitesurfers, but on quieter days, its clear blue waters are perfect for a dip.
4. The Warren Beach
The Warren Beach in Rosscarbery in West Cork is a small, local beach backed with sandy dunes. The area around the beach has been designated as a Natural Heritage Area, providing a stunning backdrop for daytrippers. There is a pier suitable for fishing nearby, and lifeguards on site in summer months. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a walk using a safe path over the headland on the left into the nearby Owenahincha beach.
5. Youghal
This long stretch of sand is an extremely popular Blue Flag site. It was one of the main beach areas for Cork City residents in the 50’s and 60’s when a train ran from the city right to the beach. It captures all of the charm of Cork's coastline, and the perfect place to escape to on a sunny day.
