Being a new mum is hard enough without feeling like you are constantly being judged by fellow mums. Sleepless nights, the hormonal rollercoaster you are constantly on and trying to adapt to your new role can leave you feeling extra sensitive to what other people say.
It's time to embrace each other for who we are and the choices we make, so here are six things new mums need to stop judging each other for:
How they parent their baby
Whether they go for the cry-it-out technique or attachment parenting, it is not for anyone else to judge. Every parent is different and each of us is simply trying to do the best job we can. If this means they want baby to sleep in their bed or to give their little one their own room then so be it.
To soother or not to soother
Soothers are a particular topic of conversation for many mums: some gloat they never gave their baby one which can make others feel guilty for giving one to their child. But there is no right or wrong; once your little one is happy and healthy then you are doing a good job.
The chosen name
The name you choose for your baby is a very personal choice and while you might love it others might not. But at the end of the day, it’s your decision and you will never be able to please everyone.
Whether you give up work or not
Whether you are going back to work or not is another common topic that mums feel they have every right to comment on. People are judged for not going back while others are judged for returning to the workforce - you'll never please everyone.
If you think breast or bottle is best
Just like how you parent, whether you decide to breastfeed or give their little one a bottle will be either celebrated or frowned upon by fellow mums. Lifestyle, personal choice and even finances determine how mums feed their baby and people are too quick to judge without knowing the reasons.
What product brands you buy
Just like where you buy your clothes, do your grocery shopping or get your hair done, your choice of baby brands is another thing new mums can look down on each other for. Again lifestyle, finances and personal choice all play a role and nobody has any right to judge another for what they buy for their baby.
