Just last night we were marvelling over what is possible thanks to modern medicine, and the following headline-catching story is further proof of that.

Researchers and medical experts in China are celebrating this weekend, after confirming the birth of the country's longest preserved test tube baby, fertilised a whopping 12 years ago.

According to China Daily, the baby boy was born to a 40-year-old woman who has suffered from PCOS and blocked fallopian tubes. She is said to have had embryos frozen back in 2003.

You may ask yourself why she chose to implant the embryo now; well, once China’s one-child policy was relaxed, she seized the opportunity to give life to another little one.

Already mother to one little boy, she recently welcomed this record-breaking tot. While his name has not yet been revealed, he is reported to have weighed in at 7lbs 6oz.

This will no doubt signal hope for other mothers longing for babies, who also have embryos in storage.

SHARE to acknowledge an amazing step forward in medical research.
