While there’s a presumption that labour is the hardest part of welcoming a new baby, others would argue that feeding problems are the most distressing.

There is a solution for every mother and child, however, as this powerful viral photo has proven.

Mums all over the world right now are talking about the powerful story of new mum Rebecca McKeever, who was photographed three weeks ago feeding her newborn daughter with a syringe full of colostrum.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Rebecca revealed that a lactation consultant suggested the alternative feeding method when baby Andromeda struggled to latch shortly after birth.

“[She] came to our hospital room to ask if we needed help. She saw that I was expressing colostrum but that Andromeda wasn’t latching, so she brought in little cups and syringes so we could get some food into her,” she explained.

The colostrum was then transferred into a syringe, and Andromeda was fed ‘little drops at a time’.

The syringe-feeding worked a treat; not only did Andromeda receive all the nutrition she needed, but she was also coaxed into trying the breast again – with much more success.

As for Rebecca, she revealed that she felt ‘empowered’ to be able to feed her baby, particularly in the face of her early issues.
